CAGE MATCH Round 3: Ghost Rider (2007) vs. Mandy (2018)

It's Monday and that means it's time for a CAGE MATCH! Join us as we celebrate the films of Nicolas Kim Coppola, a.k.a. Nicolas Cage, and attempt (using a highly scientific method) to determine which of his movies is the CAGIEST! This week's match features the Cage as a Marvel superhero whose head turns into a flaming skull and as a man who goes on a revenge fueled rampage after cultists sacrifice his wife! Who will emerge victorious? Tune in to find out! 

The Descent (2005)

It's Wednesday and that means it's time for THE LATE NIGHT FRIGHT! Join us as we discuss one of Faith's favorite films, 2005's THE DESCENT, an epically terrifying movie about a group of pretty girls that venture deep underground and come across some of the most frightening creatures ever put on a movie screen, the Crawlers! This was a first time watch for Dan so tune in to find out what he thought of the movie. References to Deliverance abound and there's even a short tribute to Peter Fonda at the beginning of the show! 

Twin Peaks: Pilot (1990)

It's Tuesday and that means it's time to look back at some classic television! Join us as we discuss the pilot episode of TWIN PEAKS, the damn fine piece of work from Mark Frost and Davis Lynch, the renaissance man of American cinema and the world's most famous surrealist. Come spend some time in a place that's a little dreamy and a little seedy! Who killed Laura Palmer? That's what Special Agent Dale Cooper and Sheriff Harry S. Truman need to find out to crack the case. There's pie, coffee, and some great performances from the entire cast. Join us for our most Lynchian episode yet! 

CAGE MATCH Round 2: National Treasure (2004) vs. Face/Off (1997)

It's Monday and that means it's time for a CAGE MATCH! We continue with Round 2 of our celebration of the films of Nicolas Cage in an extremely scientific attempt to discover which of his performances is the CAGIEST! This week's matchup features 2004's NATIONAL TREASURE, the big Disney/Bruckheimer production that has spawned one of the immortal lines in the canon of the Cage: "I'm gonna steal the Declaration of Independence." Next up is the classic 1997 John Woo directed auctioneer FACE/OFF starring the Cage and John Travolta as adversaries on different sides of the law who swap faces...yes it's crazy and yes it's awesome! Who will emerge victorious and be crowned the CAGIEST? Tune in to find out! 

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

This episode of The Late Night Fright is the stuff dreams are made of! Join us as we take a look back at Wes Craven's seminal 1984 slasher film A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET starring Jon Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Nick Corri, Johnny Depp and the incomparable Robert Englund as the dream stalker Freddy Krueger. We dive into the history of the character, offer up some biographical details on Wes Craven and Robert Englund, explore the deeper meanings and hidden symbols of the film, and offer personal anecdotes about all those times ole Fred Chuck scared the bejeezus out of us! We also have a great track from Atlanta's TOMB TONES! Like we said, this is the one dreams are made of! 

Doctor Who: Blink (2007)

It's our timey-wimiest episode of TV Tuesday in the history of The Late Night Fright! We're taking a look at 2007's "Blink". Is it horror? Is it sci-fi? Is it a mystery? It's DOCTOR WHO! This episode introduces the Weeping Angels into the Doctor's rogues gallery of villains, those gothic statues that can send you back in time with just a touch. This episode is one of the most revered in the storied history of Doctor Who and features a fantastic performance from Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan as Sally Sparrow. If you're new to Who this is the episode for you! Whatever you do, don't blink! 

CAGE MATCH Round 1: Vampire's Kiss (1989) vs. Drive Angry (2011)

It's Cage Match Monday! Two films enter! One film leaves! Which will be crowned the CAGIEST? This week we have Vampire's Kiss (1989) pitted against Drive Angry (2011)! Are we getting through to you, Alva?!? 

Vampire's Kiss features Nicolas Cage in one of his most nouveau shamanic roles as Peter Lowe, a publisher who may or may not be turning into a vampire. The film costars Maria Conchita Alonso, Jennifer Beals, and Elizabeth Ashley. Inspired by German expressionism, Cage's performance has become the stuff of legend and countless internet memes. 

 

Drive Angry is pure grind house and unadulterated fun. Cage stars as John Milton, a man who has returned from hell to find his granddaughter before she is sacrificed by a satanic cult. The film costars Amber Heard, William Fichtner, Billy Burke and David Morse, but Cage's hair and stone faced delivery steal the show.
